An Illinois, mid-west all the way girl. I grew up attending flea markets & swap-meets most every weekend. Way back before it was "fashionable"! (ha! ha!) Sleeping in the back of that pea green 1967 station wagon & having grandpa make eggs & sausage on the Hibachi grill in the mornings. It was a family affair. Grandma, grandpa, mom, dad, myself & my bonehead little brother! LOLOL!! By the age of 12 I had committed nearly every pattern & color combination of Depression Glass to memory, alphabetically no less! Thank You Grandma! And so it began. For a brief moment in my life I thought I had escaped the clutches of the antiques world. I joined the U.S. Army upon graduating high school & served proudly for nearly 8 years. When my son was 4 years old I made the decision to exit the military & to devote more time to my family. This, however, left me with the problem...WHAT THE H*** AM I SUPPOSED TO DO NOW?!?!? For a few years I fluttered around the edges, having a mall space & then selling strictly to dealers out of my house. But, with my husbands job we were moving, on average, every 8 or 9 months. This made any REAL antiques business impossible. When we moved to Florida 4 years ago I met a nice couple while shopping at a local flea market. They turned me on to "Shows". "Way back when" these were called flea markets, but somewhere along the way somebody got the idea to call them "shows" & then charge people to actually go in to shop! I still find this fascinating! LOL!! So it goes, I began doing shows every weekend here in Florida. Our lives were beginning to stabilize & Michael had moved far enough up that corporate ladder to not have to move anymore. But, the show schedule was still grueling on our home life. I spent little time with my husband & son. Traveling 3 or 4 days a week to sell. Sometimes venturing as far as Atlanta (12 hour drive each way) to do the Scott show. So, this was not going to work. Then one night in 1996 Michael said he had been "cruising" on-line & out of curiosity "searched" for antiques & WHALA! Well, wadya know?!?! People were actually selling antiques on the internet!! "Hey babe, you can do that." he says to me. Oh, yea right. I didn't even know how to turn that damned machine on! Although, I was the master of Solitaire!! <giggle> But, he was determined & would not let up. I owe much to him for his persistent prodding & here I must mention Mr. Nick Ochs. This man was a SAINT! He took me under his wing & I opened my website in his on-line antique mall, FACETS. After a year, my wings spreading, I ventured out on my own so to speak, with Uncle Nick still holding my hand. I am now the webmaster of ATTIC FINDS ANTIQUES & COLLECTIBLES MALL. If you have a moment please do check it out. I couldn't have done any of this without Michael or Nick!! THANK YOU BOTH! I host several shops in ATTIC FINDS. I do it all for my shop owners, from website design to hosting services & site mirroring. Its a full service mall, with a comprehensive bookstore on antiques & collectibles, monthly book reviews, an award to nominated sites & much more. So, now you know a little about me...okay, A LOT! But, nobody has ever accused me of being shy!! LOL!! Grandma would be proud. I am carrying on the tradition with my son Brandon. He has a page here in the shop where he sells things that he picks up at garage sales on the weekends. So, give his stuff a look & maybe drop him an email. He loves to get mail! We hope you enjoy your visit. Bookmark us & be sure to check back often! You just never know what we will buy next! So, without further ado...Let the shopping begin! |
